OFCOM is the government agency with responsibility for regulating communications – tv, radio, fixed line telecommunications, mobiles, postal services, and other wireless devices.
Due to high demand for fixed line telephone numbers within the 01202 area, OFCOM is introducing a change which will add an additional capacity of 200,000 numbers. From 1 November 2012, callers will need to dial the entire number (01202 + 6-digit local number) for every call, including when dialling another 01202 number. This will mean, for example, that a customer in Wimborne or Mudeford making a landline call to Furzehill or Christchurch will be required to include the 01202 area code. A failure to do this will result in an automated message advising the caller to include the area code.
There will be no increase in the costs of making a telephone call within the 01202 area. OFCOM will be undertaking some significant marketing of this change as we approach November. .
